Uphill Both Ways

Its actually humorous watching Obama's surrogates trying to defend the economy. Richard Goodstein is bug-eyed and emphatically telling us that we had negative 6% growth a year ago, and positive 6% growth this year--so we all should be deliriously happy; buying and investing with abandon because Happy Days are here again.

wapoobamabudget1.jpgBush Deficit vs. Obama Deficit in Pictures-->

Neglecting to mention that his first year of deficit spending dwarfed Bush's largest over two terms, Obama wants to characterize himself as a fiscally-responsible President who inherited a bad situation from evil Bush.

No mention of the dot.com collapse. No mention of 9/11.

Ironically, Obama is spending about the same for the war effort as Bush did in his final year in office--160 billion.

1% of this year's budget deficit of 1.6 trillion dollars.

Astonishingly, there is little agreement about how much the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have cost. Its either 1 trillion dollars or 3 trillion, which basically means its a nonsense number. In any event, its a big number, but smaller that what Obama put us in the hole for in a single year.

How much money is a trillion dollars? It takes 32 years to count to a billion a second at a time. It takes 300 centuries to count to a trillion.

We are so screwed.
