I was never a 'car guy' as an adolescent or young man, but after blowing up the engine in my Jeep and getting quoted a price in excess of what the car would fetch on the market, I decided that I'd replace the engine myself. Not really as daunting for me as it would be for say, an accountant, but nevertheless worthy of a great deal of preparation. It turned out to be relatively simple and I enjoyed the process, which led me to get interested in customizing automobiles.
Unfortunately, most of the automotive customizing done in this country means installing a Big Three crate engine that makes 500 HP and gets 12 MPG. I have nothing against the horse power, but I want a modern engine.
I want a BMW engine.
I've never even heard of anyone doing a restoration using anything by a Ford, Mopar or Chevrolet crate motor, so I put the idea out of my head.
Then I saw this video.
Possibly the coolest thing I've seen in a long while.
