...pretty low.
PRINCETON, NJ -- Barack Obama's presidential job approval rating is 47% in the latest Gallup Poll Daily tracking update, a new low for his administration to date. His approval rating has been below 50% for much of the time since mid-November, but briefly rose to 52% last week after he announced his new Afghanistan policy.
Its actually worse than it looks, if you can believe it--the largest drop is among independents, who registered a seven point decline, while Republicans represented a mere four point chute--just one point better than disenchanted Democrats.
Bush was running about 80% at this time in his first term.
Interestingly, Bush won reelection with numbers in the mid-fifties, but he was coming down from a high of 70% earlier that year, and never did worse than 53%, rebounding back to 57% on election day.
Three years is an eternity in politics, but unlike Bush, who was dealing with events largely beyond his control, Obama is dealing with personal incompetence that shows no signs of abatement. You can't fight stupid.
