I grinned for a hour when I saw this on an airport newsstand while waiting for my daughter to make her way down to baggage claim.
The irony here is that no corner of the state media would dare suggest that Biden was anything but a respected statesman in the first place. Nevertheless, Biden's litany of foolishness has created the grassroots impression among the right and the left (although some won't admit it publicly...), that's he's a moron.
I like the quote attributed to George W. Bush--"...if bullshit were bucks, Biden would be a billionaire."
So how does it happen that an unmistakable clown like Biden gets the running mate nod?
Biden's so-called reputation as a foreign-policy master was always just a matter of spin that had to be reasserted every-time Joe said something stupid--which was frequently. Eventually, Democrat officials started believing their own crap, confusing fact with fiction, which is how the clown-prince of the Senate got the nod.
It didn't take long for Obama campaign gurus to realize their mistake, but now they're stuck with him, and the implications for Obama's judgment and competence. They have little choice but to try to rehabilitate Joe in the eyes of the public--uphill battle that it is.
For anyone not enamored of the Obama administration or Democrats generally, its a can't lose proposition. If they fail, Obama looks like an idiot.
If they succeed, Joe runs for the Presidency.
