The economy is so bad, that everybody in the U.S. is being fired twice a month.
Nancy Pelosi didn't actually say that, but its clearly the implication of her assertion that the U.S. is losing 500,000,000 jobs every month.
As Katrina was approaching the gulf coast, experts estimated deaths in the lower parishes of New Orleans would be between 25,000 and 100,000. In the end, the official death toll stood at 1,100. Yet that wasn't clearly an impressive enough death toll for those interested in damaging George W. Bush politically. Liberal media actively wrote stories as late as 2007 that sought to blame deaths of former residents in the subsequent months and years, on the Katrina disaster.
"There are high rates of mental health problems among the survivors and previous research has found that mental disorders are predictors of earlier death rates," Kessler said. "So putting the two together in New Orleans is not surprising."
Liberals love post-traumatic stress disorder. Its such a convenient way of pinning deaths on things you don't like. I wonder how many people will die because Obama was elected? I know I've been feeling a lot of stress about it...
Yet even the 1,100 deaths figure is a gross exaggeration--attributing many natural deaths that occurred in other stated to former New Orleans residents, to Hurricane Katrina. Actual deaths cause by the storm? 579 in the entire state of Louisiana
To get a little perspective on this--the recent ice storm that swept through the mid-west has a death toll of 55. I going to state right now that the real death toll will be 10,000, counting all the people who will die because of post-traumatic stress disorder, increased drug abuse, depression and other health problems created by this natural disaster and the Obama administration's inadequate and incompetent response (Hey, sauce for the goose...)
Most Democrat politicians take the Nancy Pelosi approach, and dispense with the fig leaf of plausible explanations for inflated numbers--they just make them up whole cloth.
OAKLAND, CA - Cynthia McKinney, Green Party Presidential candidate, charged the Department of Defense with the cover-up of 5,000 execution-style deaths during the chaotic aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in September 2005 on September 28. She related that an anonymous mother told her that her son had processed 5,000 corpses, mostly male, with a single bullet wound to the head and entered the results into a Pentagon computer. The mother stated that the son had signed a confidentiality agreement and could not legally talk, and that the bodies were dumped into the swamp. Listen to her statement here.
McKinney appears to have developed that little theory from this darkly suspicious bon mot from the Democratic Underground.
AMY GOODMAN: The official death toll stands at about 1,300, but thousands of people are still reported missing. Two weeks ago, USA Today reported the whereabouts of 6,600 people have not been determined. 6,600 people missing or dead. And this past weekend, Newsday reported the missing includes 1,300 children. The reports are based on figures provided by two groups: the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the National Center for Missing Adults. Officials with both groups say the numbers are so high, in part because government record-keeping efforts haven’t caught up with Katrina survivors who were separated from their families during the evacuations. Hurricane shelters had no coordinated system for feeding evacuees’ names, birthdates and other information into a national database.
The inmates are in charge now...

Don't forget the 10,000 people Obama said were killed by tornados in Kansas.

The more I get into reading about politics, the more frightened I become. Where is commonsense in our government? Maybe they have it when they get to Washington and then lose it. Who knows? As bad as it is, I think that the Internet is keeping them from doing even worse because people, in general, know what's going on to a greater decree through sites like this.
